Korea Sparkling Socks

I meant to get this posted yesterday, but I never had time to get on the internet and get pictures up. I did finish my Korea Sparkling socks though. For those of you who don't know why they are called Korea Sparkling, let me explain. There is a new ad campaign here in Korea to try to get more tourists. So they have all these wonderful things to see, and then at the end it goes, Korea....Sparkling! So, hence why when I got sparkly yarn from Kim for my going away present, I felt the need to name them this. Anyways, here's the socks:
The unflattering foot picture. And then:

It kinda shows off the sparkles. Anyways, that's it for today. I'll have more pictures either this weekend or Monday.

The First Day

Well, I'm pretty much totally worn out. I had joked that I would probably lose a bunch of weight while over here, but I didn't even take into consideration how tired standing on your feet for over 5 hours can make you. Thankfully, I only have one class tomorrow, so I'll be able to just sit at the desk and work on some lesson plans.

One thing I have noticed so far is that I talk way too fast for beginner English speakers. By the third class today, I think I may have found a good speed for them, and by the last class, seemed to be doing better. We'll see how the rest of the week goes.

I'll hopefully have some knitting-related pictures on here tomorrow.

Catch Up

Today is a catch up post. I meant to post yesterday, but realized that I don't have a USB port on the computer at work that is easy access, so you're getting the pictures I meant to post yesterday today instead :oP First, here is the yarn that I spun up for Jessi:

And next is the current sock in progress that is made out of the sparkling Tempted yarn that Kim gave me before I went.

That's it for today. I'm teaching my first class today, so we'll see how badly I suck at this! Hopefully I don't corrupt the minds of the youth too quickly.

From the other side of the world

Just wanted to pop on and let everyone know thatI live. I'm sitting in a PC bar right now with DF, trying to keep my eyes open. I think it's time to sleep after being up for well over 24 hours straight now. I'll have more later, including a new sock out of the awesome yarn Kim bought me as a going away present (yeah, I picked it out :oP ).

Look, a Sock!

Look, I have been knitting a bit. A very little bit, but still enough to warrant progress pictures:Today is my last day at work too. I have to admit that it's kind of bittersweet. I don't always like the job I do or get along with everyone, but for the most part, I like everyone at my job. They've always been good to me and it's always hard to leave an environment like this. They have made it easier on me by assuring me that I can always come back when I get back to the states, but it's still never easy to leave a good group of people. Especially when you've got a knitter that sits right next to you and you've corrupted another to learn to crochet. We were so close to a takeover of the office!

And tonight is also my last SnB on a Tuesday night. That's really going to be sad. At least there is email and I know that we'll all be able to stay in touch. After all, I might need cascade 220 mailed to me and I need to keep my contacts up to date! :oP

It might be quiet on the blog here for a few days. I'll try to post tomorrow, but no guarantees since I won't be in to work where I usually do my posting. I leave on Thursday, so any prayers for safe travel would be much appreciated. I'll post as soon as I can when I get to Korea.

Tying Up Loose Ends

There's a ton of stuff that still needs to be done before I leave, but at least I've finished most of my packing now. I had to unwind some yarn off the bobbin this weekend too. I finished Jessi's yarn, but stupid me totally forgot to get a picture of the finished product. Hopefully Jessi will take pictures here soon (hint hint :oP ) I also took off a mini skein of sari silk that I spun:Definitely not my best spinning, but it is yarn and it turned out interesting anyways. I probably won't do much more sari silk spinning and will leave it to the women who have been doing it for a while. It's a rather difficult thing to spin since it has nothing to do with drafting and everything to do with fiber preparation. Still kinda fun once you get into the spinning part though.

I also worked on the sock a little this weekend and I'll have pictures of that tomorrow.

Spinning, Spinning, Almost Done With Spinning...

Yep, so I spun again last night. This time I plied. I plied and plied and plied some more. Here's what I got so far:The roving is making a really pretty yarn. I think Jessi is going to definitely like this. I'll be done with the two skeins of it tonight. I have to admit that I'll be really quite glad when the roving is done being spun up and plied. It's the last thing that I have hanging to get done before I leave for other people.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Spin, Baby, Spin

Last night I went over to Renee's house with my wheel, determined to crank through a bunch more of the roving for Jessi's sock yarn that I'm working on. I spun for nearly three hours while we talked, drank tea, and looked at some cool computer games. I could have probably finished the whole rest of the roving last night, but by 8:30, my arse had had enough of the sitting and spinning and I was pretty well wiped out. If I didn't have to concentrate on the spinning as much and could just sit there and let it go, I might have been able to go longer. Oh well.

So tonight I intend to finish the rest of the roving and begin to ply the yarn. I might even be able to get through all the plying if it's raining the way the weather people say it's going to and we don't get to play disc golf like Erica and I had planned. I also want to finish two more crocheted dishcloths tonight sometime too, but the roving is more important than anything right now since it needs to be done by the weekend.

Hopefully I'll have some pictures for you tomorrow of either finished yarn, or at least darned close to it.

Chugging Right Along

I'm just chugging along on all the projects I had hanging for other people. Last night I finished this square for Ann's afghan that she's assembling:I also started a second square which I hope to have done by today at lunch:I also spun more on Jessi's yarn. I'm getting pretty close to being done and I'm really hoping to be totally done with it by tomorrow evening.

That's it for today. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have another finished square to show you and maybe even some finished yarn!

The Dishcloth Parade and Some Spinning

That about sums up my weekend craft-wise. I played disc golf on Saturday on a course that totally kicked my arse. It was just rediculously hard to play. Anyways, it rained all day on Sunday, so I made four dishcloths to finish up the six that I owe my great-grandmother. Yesterday, I took a sick day since I have a couple and I won't get paid for them unless I use them. I crocheted a pile of dishcloths for my grandmother and then spun up some more of the roving for Jessi. I'm feeling the deadline approaching for the sock yarn, so I'm going to try to be done sometime in the next few days if at all possible.

Here's the dishcloths:There are actually about five more crocheted ones now too after I took that picture, but you get the general idea :oP

Frisbees In The Rain

So yesterday, despite the fact that it was drizzling rain, my friends wanted to go play disc golf. They're becoming a bit obsessive, but since I knew I could still kick their arses in the rain, I decided to go along and play too. I did kick their arse, but we all got soaking wet and then had to head over to Erica's house to sack out and dry off.

Anyways, I didn't get much knitting done yesterday. I got a little bit done and was able to add about an inch to the current sock in progress, but that was about it. Hopefully tonight I'll get some knitting and some spinning done. I need to work some more on the sock yarn for Jessi since that needs to be done by next week really so that I don't have to scramble last minute to spin it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! If you need another blog to read, here's my kindle blog :oP Yeah, I needed something else to do... :oP

Look, A Sock!

Look, I do still knit:The sock was crumpled up in my purse all night, so it really doesn't look quite this bad. Anyways, I am still knitting in the midst of packing and boxing up stuff. I'll probably work on the sock some more tonight too while over at Erica's so that I can say that I'm knitting even more. Hopefully I'll have a little more progress to show you. I also have to get a sock onto the wooden harmony needles for the flight. Just have to decide if this will be a vanilla sock, or something with some pattern to it. We'll see.

I've Been Waiting A Long Time

So last night, after playing disc golf with Erica and helping my dad get a webcam set up on his computer in Florida, I ran to JoBeth and picked up the new Dragonlance book Amber and Blood. I have been waiting for a few years now for this book and it came out yesterday, so I stayed up too late reading the thing. I'll be done tonight for sure, but I'm just glad to finally be getting the book in my hands!

There was no knitting yesterday either. I will actually get in some knitting today at SnB at lunch, so hopefully I will have some pictures tomorrow for you of actual knitting content. I'm beginning the wonderful packing tonight. Need to see what I want to take clothes-wise and what I want to just go ahead and pack up. The less I have to do towards the end, the better in my opinion.

Derby Day and Big News

Ok, I'll do the big news first. For those of you who have been following my ranting, whining, bitching, and moaning about how I wanted to get to Korea to teach and how it never seemed to be going right, lo and behold, I now have a visa in my passport and I'm going. Yep, things moved and when they moved, they went quickly. I had my visa interview on Friday and then yesterday when I got home from work, my passport and visa were there waiting for me. Anyways, I'll keep you all posted on when I'm actually leaving. Lord knows I have a ton of stuff to do before I go now.

And now on to the Derby party from this weekend:There was cake (darn you cake, I'm sure you were one of the many reasons I was sick). There were women in hats. There was me all dressed up.And John had the winning horse!

Anyways, there's the derby party and the big news. There might not be too much knitting going on in the next couple of weeks since I'll be scrambling to pack and get stuff to storage and what not. Anyways, I'll keep you all posted!

Lesson Learned the Hard Way

I never seem to learn lessons the easy way, but I learned one the hard way this weekend. I took a prilosec before heading to my family's derby party so that I could eat some stuff that had eggs in it. Well, I went a little bit overboard on that. I didn't take into consideration what would happen when the prilosec wore off. Yeah, it wasn't pretty. I did however finally get the wretching under control when the prilosec finally hit again, so I'm human once more.

Yeah, lesson learned the hard way...

Anyways, pictures tomorrow of stuff, I promise. I took some derby pictures and what not at the party, so I'll have those tomorrow too.

Finished Marissa Sweater

I finished the sweater last night and took some really crappy pictures of it. Nothing shows how well the sweater looks, so instead of posting the crap, I'll have someone take picture of the sweater on me today if the sun shines. I really like the sweater and it fits well. If I could change anything, I would probably make the sweater longer than the pattern calls for. Sometimes designers forget to take into account that when you have boobs, they can suck up inches off the bottom of the sweater.

Seeing as I do have these, I think I needed another few inches to the bottom of the shirt. It's not bad, but I do like a little longer shirt.

Pictures tomorrow, or later today if I get ambitious!
