This is my knitting blog where I post about general knitting, crocheting, spinning, rants, rambles, life...yeah, you get the picture.

WIPS
Last night I worked on my grandma's sweater some. It's the 5-hour raglan sweater pattern from lionbrand.com. It's very lightweight and loose which is what someone needs in Florida I think. Now, I'm not a big fan of lionbrand yarns, especially the moonlight mohair that the pattern calls for. 1, it's itchy and 2, it's expensive. So online I went to find a replacement (plus grandma said she wanted beige and they don't make moonlight mohair in beige) and of course my first yarn store of choice online is KnitPicks.com I went on there and saw the suri dream in a nice beige color and ordered 10 balls of it (seeing as the lionbrand pattern called for 12 balls and I know they always put down too much for me when I'm working a pattern). Instead of the incredible ribbon yarn that the pattern calls for, I used Homespun in a beige-ish color. With two strands of Suri Dream and one strand of homespun, I used the size 50 (yes, size 50, they're huge) and started working on the back of the sweater. I finished the back in about an hour. It's fluffy and nice and so soft. I think it would make a better blanket than a sweater, but for an almost 80 year old woman, it seems to be exactly what she wanted.
I also remembered that Wednesday is for spinning, so I grabbed some of the gray roving I have so much of and spun up a whole bobbin last night. I need to spin up another bobbin and get to plying, so I might do that tonight too. I was going to go to SnB tonight and I still might, but I want to see what the weather is going to do. I don't do well in storms. I have a litle anxiety over storms and it looks like we may get a doosy of one tonight, so we'll see. If it's not bad, I'll be going. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go tonight, just don't want to go out if it's storming like mad (yeah, night blindness and rainy streets are a no-no for me driving too). So send out good weather vibes so that I can drag my butt over to SnB tonight and get my knit on with the rest of the crew who I haven't seen in forever.
Pictures tomorrow, I promise.

Find A Cure
OK, so I normally don't post about fundraisers for organizations unless they are close to my heart. While going through my usual batch of knitting blog reads yesterday, I saw that Impossible Princess is doing a bike race to raise money and awareness for AIDS research. It just so happens that this is an issue close to my heart.
My cousin has been battling AIDS for nearly 20 years now. It's hard to believe that he's survived that long when you hear about all the cases of people dying so suddenly and rarely making it more than 10 years. He has been blessed with some truly great doctors around here who have helped him live a fairly normal life and a loving family who has supported him through these hard times. He's had some close calls in those 20 years and he's gone through some rough times mentally and physically. I love my cousin dearly and I will help him in his fight however I can.
I always donate to AIDS research every year, but when I saw the post on Impossible Princess' blog, I thought that this sounded good. First off, he's going to be in a huge bike race. It's something like 500 some odd miles of biking across the state of California. It's going to take some hard training, but it will raise awareness. He has to raise 2500 dollars to participate and is seeking donations from his knitting friends. So to raise money, he's opening up an etsy store where he will sell handmade items that he makes and other knitters send him. So, want to score some cool stuff and help a great cause? Go to his etsy store.
Why do I mention this so much? I'm going to be spinning up some red roving just for this cause. I will be spinning up 1/2 pound and will donate it to his store. Anything I can do to help raise awareness for this cause. So go visit his blog and consider donating. If you don't feel comfortable donating, go visit his etsy store once it's opened and buy some stuff and know that it'll be going to a good cause.

One FO At Least
It's hard to see the striping pattern, but seeing as this sweater never really liked to be photographed, it doesn't surprise me. I still think the neck is slightly wonky, but with a nice collared shirt, you'll never even be able to tell.
Tonight I really will seem up mom's cardigan. I also intend to start my grandmother's sweater too. I opened up the door to the office when I got home last night and there sat the spinning wheel. I almost cracked it out then, but I think I'll wait and spin on Wednesday when I can devote some time to it. Unless something changes, I will be making an appearance at the Thursday SnB which I have not been to in forever. I have to decide what to make for it too, any recipe suggestions? They need to be vegan preferably since we do have a few in the club.
In other news, I had a conversation with my doctor which has led to me getting a test after work tomorrow. My stomach has been really bothering me here recently and it reminds me a lot of the time I had an ulcer when I was younger. She thinks I may have another one, so I get to go drink the crap and do the x-ray test. She said she would like to avoid the scope (I whole-heartedly agree!) unless nothing shows up on the barium crap test. I've had this test before and it sucks, but it's easy and I just have to drink barium crap like 3 hours prior to the test. We shall see. I'm not too worried about it though since I have had this before and it all cleared up with a month of treatment with Aciphex. While the crap is expensive, it works like a charm, so hopefully it'll clear it right up.
Do I have to do work now?

Giving Thanks and the Hummer
So when we got up to his cousins' house, DBF cracked out the Hummer. So I now present, Boys and Toys:
DBF and his cousin play with the Hummer and then decide this:
DBF thought that baby Jesus would have liked to play with the Hummer. I have a feeling that this could be our Christmas card this year :oP
After putting the Hummer away (20 minute battery life), we socialized and ate, and then drove back home to hit a couple of sales. Circuit City was out of everything by the time we got there (DBF and I were not going to get up at 5 AM unless someone had PS3s), and Meijer didn't have a huge sale going on, although I did get a small present of cologne for my dad while we were there. Best Buy had the best deal that we saw all day and that was a 2GB SD memory card for 29 bucks. There were no mail-in rebates attached to that too, so that meant we saved 70 bucks on the spot. Woot!
Saturday we went to my family's Thanksgiving dinner and I once again ate too much. After the dinner we went to see a production of A Christmas Carol and it was pretty good. I had massive heartburn and stomach pain for most of the day, so we ran and got some Gaviscon and I drank a bunch of that to calm things down.
Sunday was a gorgeous day. We went and played some disc golf and I sucked majorly. After that we went to see Casino Royale. It was OK, but it's not my favorite Bond movie of all time by any means. I don't think I like this new guy that much, but he was OK. When we got home, DBF tried on his sweater after I made changes to the neckline and I took a picture of him in it. Blogger won't let me post anymore pictures now, so I'll post that picture either later today or tomorrow. Tomorrow may be for FO's anyways since I also finished mom's cardigan and now just need to sew the thing together and go buy one more set of buttons.
Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. Hope you had a good birthday too, Erica!

Come on, Come on....
So last night I was happily knitting on mom's cardigan, baking a squash casserole and some snickerdoodles (not to self, never, NEVER buy cookie dough from the neighborhood kid's fundraiser....you'll just eat far too many cookies), and watching tapes to catch up on my shows when aforementioned kid comes over. She wants to try to spin again. So I get up, take the casserole out, eat a cookie, and go grab the drop spindle. I told her that she couldn't use the wheel until she got really good at the drop spindle (seeing as I have no cheap roving left aside from what is on that spindle right now, I don't want her to spin up really bad singles out of merino that cost me a little money). She's the type of kid that gets bored after about 2 seconds, but she really likes the drop spindle. I'm thinking that for Christmas, I may make a CD drop spindle for her and her sister and give them that and a bag of cheap roving and let them go nuts. I can see the look on their parents' faces now :oP
After they finally left, I spun up a second skein of the kid mohair/merino blend and plied it and everything. It looks a little better than the first one, but they are both pretty consistent.
Come on, come on....
I'm going to go to Thanksgiving with DBF's family, so we'll be travelling tomorrow. His cousins have a very nice house and that side of the family meets up on Thanksgiving with way too much food, but the thing I always look forward to?
Quarter Poker.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Stupid Rabbit
A skein of kid mohair/merino blend wool courtesy of Erica. It's so super soft before you spin it and it keeps that softness after it's spun. I love the silky luster to this wool too. I still have well over half the bag left too, so I need to spin the rest of it up and then figure out what to make out of it. I think it's soft enough that it should be a next-to-skin item of some sort. Once I spin the rest of it up, I'll see how much it yielded and we'll go from there.
So, I get ready to go to bed, take DBF's sweater into the bedroom to photograph it for the blog, and there is a bunny on the bed, surrounded by bunny shit and bunny pee, and I drop the sweater and charge the rabbit. I guess she got the hint that I was royally pissed (no pun intended) at her, so she ran back into the front room and jumped in her cage. She got no treat last night. So I angrily strip off the sheets, the comforter, and anything else that she peed on, go and get the See Spot Go urine remover and spray the stains to make them vanish, then tromp downstairs to throw the sheets in the washer. I couldn't get the comforter in there, so it will have to be washed tonight. I grabbed the first blanket I saw downstairs and went back up to go to bed on the mattress pad. Damn rabbit. Oh, here's a quickly taken picture of DBF's sweater. It's a pretty crappy picture, but I was mad, so this is what you get :oP
Yep, still have a lot of ends to weave in. I might still try to do something else with the neck, like make it more defined or something. We'll see how ambitious I get. I was too mad to worry about that last night. Oh, and I mentioned yesterday that it snowed. I would show you a picture, but blogger is apparently done letting me load pictures. I'm going to try to go into yesterday's post and put it there if it will let me. We'll see. I have to wash and dry a comforter tonight, so I may or may not get to go to SNB this week. Oh well. I'm still trying to find a way to meet up with Kim on Wednesday since she has the day off (really, truly, she has a day off!).

Snow!
Friday, DBF and I stayed home and watched TV. He helped get me out of my bad funk at least, so that was good (still calling the doctor today to get a refill for the happy pills). Saturday we went and played in a Magic PTQ sealed event. I was given what looked like a God deck. Two Avatar of Woe, two Sudden Death, one Jaya, a Lighting Axe, a bunch of other red burn and black removal, and I thought it would win. Silly me, I went 0-2 drop. The cards looked pretty, but they sure played like crap. I think I built the deck just fine too, so I'm not sure why the deck hated me so bad. Oh well. DBF went 1-2 drop. So much for going to PT Geneva :oP We drove back home and went to go see the movie Happy Feet. Yeah, kids will love it, adults will fall asleep. Although it does have the late Steve Irwin playing an Elephant Seal, so go see if you can figure out which one he played.
Sunday we spent a good chunk of the day in the car, driving to pick up DBF's aunt. In the time that took, I finished his sweater and started on mom's cardigan and got a good chunk of the back panel done. Seeing as there is no poker this week, I should be able to get a lot of Christmas knitting done. Being off Thursday and Friday helps too!
So when we finally got back to my house, I had him try on the sweater. Everything looked fine except the neck. Good lord, the neck is awful. I actually cried it was so awful. I'll be trying to fix that tonight. It seems to be a little off-center (I probably didn't rip even rows out when fixing it the first time), and definitely too wide. I think that I will just pick up the stitches and decrease a few rounds and see what can be done that way. I'll try it on and see how it fits after that. If it'll look OK on me, it'll look OK on him. Overall, I wasn't too pleased with how it came out. I think I'll be knitting him another sweater in the future, but it'll definitely be made out of nicer yarn and definitely not that Cape Cod pullover pattern again. Oh well, nice thing about knitting is that you can always fix something. You may have to rip out 100 rows, but you can always fix it!

388 dollars
Oh, and no tickets to the game tonight. This sucks.
TGIF
I'm still a little depressed this morning and the anxiety is up some too. I wish I knew why. I have been doing so good since I've been off the Lexapro and on an herbal supplement on reccommendation from my doctor. So what's the deal? Did that vitamin B shot I got on Tuesday screw something up? I'm going to have to wait and see how much the car costs me today and then I may call in my prescription to Lexapro today or tomorrow and get that sucker filled again. My doctor said that if stuff like this happened that I should stop taking the supplement and go back on Lexapro. We were just seeing if we could find a cheaper route to take than Lexapro, but right now I need something to kick me out of this funk I've been in.
I didn't even knit last night. I didn't spin, I didn't cook (thank God for Chinese delivery food), I didn't do anything except curl up in bed and watch Heroes, My Name is Earl, SNL, and the Book of Daniel, all on tape from DBF. On the bright side, I finished two tapes that I can give back to him now. I just sat in bed all night and went to bed at 8, woke up at 6:30 and came to work. Blah.
If the guy at work remembers the tickets, DBF and I might go see UK play tonight. I've never been to a men's basketball game before (I've been up here for 5 years now and have yet to go), so I'd really like to see them play in person. Maybe that would snap me out of it. Who knows. Right now I'm just dreading the phone call from the car place.

So Much For My Turn To Win
OK, for poker players out there, suited cards only raise your likelyhood of winning a hand by 3%. He calls a pre-flop bet with crappy suited semi-connectors and wins the hand and puts me out of the tourney. I don't get pissy about bad beats very often, but believe me, I was pissed about that hand. It was the only hand I played too, so that made it even worse. Oh well.
In knitting news, I am almost done with DBF's sweater. I hope that after knitting on it some at lunch today and after work that I might get it done. I will have to seem it up tomorrow, but it is almost there. Once I get his done, the emphasis goes on Mom's cardigan and Grandma's sweater for Christmas. I'm thinking about buying some of the cards from Knitty.com about why people didn't get their hand-made items on time for the holidays. I don't know if I can get stuff done for everyone up here. Hopefully I can, it just means I have to knit, knit, knit. Not that that's a problem or anything, but I have this spinning wheel at home and it calls to me.
Yeah, I know the drive band is off. I had to take off a bobbin and then didn't put it back on before taking the picture. Last night before poker, I spun up the rest of the turquois merino and white merino to make more of the Ice Princess yarn. I should have enough spun to make at least three big skeins, maybe four total. We'll see how far it goes once the plying is all done. I'm almost done plying one skein of it.
My car decided to do strange things this morning. I managed to get her into work, but I think she needs to go to the mechanic right after work. I'm not an expert, but I think my alternator is dying since the battery light is on and the battery won't recharge. It's a freaking new battery too, so it makes me wonder. Also it's running hotter than usual and I should really get that checked out. It better not be more than 400 bucks to repair, that's all I'm saying. I can allot my paycheck's worth of credit card bill payment to it, but I do need to pay the utilities and maybe have a little left over to buy some food. Car, you picked a sucky time to break down. Why couldn't you have waited until after the holidays?

Crappy Prizes
Me? Yeah, I was out before the final table. AQ suited looks good until the big chip stack calls with pocket kings. Blah.
Knitting news! Yes, there is knitting news today, with pictures and everything. So here goes:
Dad's finished cardigan, but the thing is so dark, it barely even shows up. It looks good, trust me :oP
A little something I've been working on with the spinning wheel...now where's the dye? Here's the skein of yarn I made yesterday and I now feel the need to make more of it because I want, no, NEED something made out of this. I'm calling the colorway Ice Princess:
Close Up:
100 percent merino wool. A single spun with tourquois and a single spun with plain old white then plied together to make a bulky weight yarn. The other white yarn up top is closer to a heavy worsted weight. I wanted to spin some merino before working on the kid mohair/merino blend that Erica sent me so I didn't screw it up. I would really hate to screw up good roving. Another interesting occurrence at my house yesterday:
Spooky will not leave the roving alone. There's no angora in there, but I guess the smell of other animal fiber makes her go crazy. Go figure. She eventually crawled into the bag and then freaked out, but I was laughing too hard to get that picture. Silly rabbit, roving is for people!
Tonight is the last of the final tournaments for the poker league. DBF and I will once again try to win a prize. I think it's my turn to win tonight since I haven't even made final table for one of them yet. I'll be bringing DBF's sweater sleeve with me (number 2!) to see if I can finish that tonight. It'll be close, but I realized that I have knit this sweater only while playing poker. Interpret: I have been playing so much poker that I have had time to knit an entire sweater. It's kind of cool that I'm almost done with it and the league ends tonight. There's a party for the league tomorrow night, so if I don't get it done tonight, I'll have to take it there and finish it so that it can truly be a poker sweater.

DBF Kicked Arse
Today I have a doctor appointment, so I'm home, trying to relax before it. This doctor rarely ever has good news for me, so I don't like to go see him more than once a year. Hopefully it will be just a nice routine check up and no other "needs to be documented in a medical journal" things will come up. Anyways, I'll have pictures of the finished Dad cardigan (sewing on the buttons as I speak) tomorrow.

Pictures!
Kim made chocolate cupcakes and loaded one with a bunch of squiggly candles. I was very entertained by the candles. We all devoured a good chunch of the cupcakes and then came the feeling time. Erica, this is for you:
Emily feeling the kid mohair/merino blend roving.
Kim pondering if she can run away with the roving. Sarah also was fondling the roving, but for some reason her picture did not make it on the CD. I don't know why, but if I can get it to burn on a CD, I'll post it. We all just wanted to put little ears on the roving and call it a pet, it's that soft. I have not spun that up yet since I was working on a couple of other rovings this weekend. I got four skeins of yarn done between Saturday and Sunday, now comes the fun part...dying them. We'll see how this turns out :oP
Saturday I went to my cousin's baby shower. She had the cutest cake:
Obviously she's having a little girl. I gave her the sari silk baby kimono and she loved it. She jokingly asked if she would be getting her own adult size for Christmas. I looked at the stash when I got home and decided that there is enough to make a little shrug, but not enough for a full size jacket, even though she is quite small. If I have time, I might make one after I get all the other presents done.
Spooky and I moved back in last night and Spooky had to check out the spinning wheel. I may have to move it in the other room because it apparently tastes good to her. Tonight is about Poker and trying to win a trip to the casino. I'll report more tomorrow :oP

Friday
Last night I came home and I cleaned. I ran Spooky over to my grandparents' house where I'll be staying for the weekend and then ran to camera club. After camera club, I came home and cleaned some more. Yes, it was a very exciting evening.
I got up early this morning to finish some laundry before coming to work, so another reason I'm sleepy. I may go take a nap at lunch today. I did get the spinning wheel all together last night and it appears to be in working order. I will be taking that with me this weekend.
I always hate when the home owners come in for a weekend. It does create a hassle since I have to pack up all my stuff and make sure it's tucked away so that they don't get into it, clean the house, move the rabbit, and then leave. Oh well.
I'll have pictures on Monday. I'm lazy today. I did very little knitting yesterday with the camera club and cleaning and all. Have a good weekend, everyone!

The Wheel Is In
I packed up the wheel in my car and headed over to poker where I qualified for the third tournament next week. I now qualify for all three tourneys, so I'm ready to go kick some arse! I went out pretty quick, but seeing as only 5 of us showed up to play, it was OK.
I quickly sped home (thankfully there were no cops around at 8:15 last night) and drug the box into the living room after I had checked the house thoroughly (there was a light on that shouldn't have been on, but it was later decided that a ghost is playing tricks on me). I opened the box and there were all the little parts (8:45 as of this point). I grabbed the screwdriver, hammer, oil, and hex wrench and started assembling my new wheel. I got down to the screws that attach the treadle to the driver for the wheel and I couldn't take it any more. My hand cramped up and that was the end of the assembly. It's almost all done, and I shall finish it tonight.
I realize now that my hand cramp was actually my body telling me that it was way past my bedtime for a work night. I put the screwdriver down at midnight and went to bed. I'm sleepy this morning, but I am more wanting to get that dumb wheel put together.
I'm still working on the pictures issue. I need to go get my CD's from the grandparents' house so that I can get them into work. Maybe I can find a computer here that will read a DVD...

Happy Birthday
DBF and I have been dating for well over three years now. Those have been the happiest three years of my life without a shadow of a doubt. We met at a local game store where he and a few of his friends were playing the Star Wars TCG. I just saw dice, so I had to go see what the game was all about. I beat the first two guys and then came DBF. He utterly crushed me. I immediately liked him because he didn't take it easy on me. A few weeks later, I was supposed to go to Shakespeare in the Park to see Robin Hood (I know, it's not a Shakespearian play...) with one of my friends. Well, the card gamers played every Sunday and I had joined up with their group, so I was waiting to go to the play when my friend called. She tells me the absolutely horrible news that her mother had been trampled by a horse down in Georgetown and that she was going to the hospital to see her (her mom was fine, so don't worry). I came back in from the call and said, well, guess I won't go since I won't have anyone to go with me. In chimes DBF saying he'll go with me. It sounded good to me, so we went on our first date then. We've tried to go to Shakespeare in the Park every year since.
DBF is a strong competitor which works well with me since I'm also super competitive. He introduced me to the world of tournament Magic, tournament Star Wars TCG, Origins, and many other gaming related things as well as photography. He even puts up with this quirky yarn obsession that I have and the endless babbling that I go on and on about that I know he has no clue what I'm saying. He's good like that. He has also been there for me in many hard and difficult times. He was the one who encouraged me to get counselling when I started going through my severe depression. He was the only one who seemed to understand what I was going through and has been there for me every step of the way. He's held me when I've gone through anxiety attacks and he's just been there for me.
The past 3+ years have produced some of my greatest memories. I hope he realizes how much he's touched my life and I can only hope that I've touched his life as much. I can't imagine my life without him and I look forward each and every day to new memories that we will make with each other. Happy birthday, to the man that I love. DBF, you hold such a special place in my heart. Happy Birthday.

A Letter
I think it has been so long since I truly addressed you that I have forgotten that you truly exist. So last night while rummaging through my closet for something to wear, I found signs that you were not a myth that I created and keep telling myself I used to be. No, you were a real person. I have the jeans to prove it.
Why, dear Weight Watcher, did you run away? Why did you leave those size 10s and opt instead for the size 18s that you are now? Is sugar that damn good. Well, yes, but is it worth it?
Did you ever think that when you were 24 that you would be a size 18? Did you ever think you would get to a size 18? Do you like saying you are a size 18? No, I didn't think so.
So would you like to come back, dear Weight Watcher of old? Will you please come back so that my grandmother will stop buying clothes for me and telling me that she bought that size because she was afraid it would shrink instead of just saying, I bought that size because you are that size?
All your old material is still hanging around the house and the office. It really is here, you just need to pick it up and start reading it again. I know it's been a while, but I need your help. I can't do this alone and I need that reminder of the size I was four years ago when I lost all this weight originally. I would like to be any size smaller than an 18 right now. I'll be thrilled with a 16 as of this point.
Plus, if you help me get smaller, dear Weight Watcher of old, it will cost us both less money on yarn to make things for us. We will be able to knit objects for the 6 skein size instead of the 8 skein size. We can spin a pound of roving instead of a pound and a half. Will you help me do this, Weight Watcher of old?
Today there will be cupcakes at SnB. I need your help, Weight Watcher of old. I need to only eat one cupcake, not 2 or 10. Please come back. I found your jeans, and your pictures are still on my desk, curled up in the arms of DBF. Look, there you are! Proof that you are not a myth! DBF has even seen you. Well, he's seen the size 12 you, but I think he would like to see the size 10 you as well! Come back and help me do this, dear old friend. I've got your jeans, and I've got your books, so now I just need your help.
Sincerely,
The Weight Watcher of Now
Of Hangovers and Pokemon
Once home, Spooky started chewing on my feet. The rabbit has developed a foot fetish now and just seems to take great joy in chomping on toes. I took my socks off, thinking this would help, but instead she bit my toe. Dumb rabbit. She probably enjoyed it too. Anyways, I played Pokemon last night. I played that gamecube game and got stuck in one section that is driving me crazy. I'll probably go home this afternoon and breeze right through it since I won't have any alcohol in my system. Anyways...
Today is SnB over at ReBelle, so I'll be heading there at lunch. Kim has already said that she is bringing cupcakes in for the birthday celebration, so woot for cupcakes! I brought in my rolling tote to bring to SnB and carry Dad's ever growing cardigan sleeve. I'm hoping I can get it done today at lunch so that I can sew the sucker up and run over to Hancock Fabric before poker tonight. I need to qualify for the final tournament for the Tuesday/Thursday league. That is the best prize out of all of the prizes and it's the one tournament that I'm not qualified for! I just haven't been winning enough there I guess. So, I'll try and qualify so that DBF and I have a slightly better chance with two of us in there.
Tomorrow is for spinning. I will also have new pictures tomorrow. I brought the new camera with me, thinking that the computer here might be able to read it directly like it did the craptapulous one, but apparently I need to install Kodak software and of course, I can't do that since I'm not a computer administrator. I would hate to ask the IT guy to let me install it so I can put blogging pictures on my computer :oP I'll just download them at home and email them to myself.

Lunch With Kim
Blurry sock yarn! It's Opal in the rainforest collection, specifically Chameleon colorway. It's a nice shade of blues and green. She also got me a card which I feel needs to be made into something. It says:
Only the Good Die Young...We Bitches Live Forever!
Anyways, back to work.

They Say It's Your Birthday
Tonight I will go over to my grandparents' house and have dinner with them, open presents that are there, and then go play poker perhaps if I am done in time. If not, then I will go to the Liquor Barn, buy a bottle of coconut rum, some pina colada mixer, and try out the new blender that DBF's mom got me for my birthday. DBF and I bought each other video games that we both had been wanting. I do have a confession though. The game that I had been wanting was a dumb pokemon game for gamecube. I am addicted to pokemon games. I don't know why, I just am. Perhaps there is an adult recovery group for pokemon? I also am addicted to Lego Star Wars, any Final Fantasy game, Kingdom Hearts, Dino Crisis, and many others, but I am really addicted to pokemon.
Here's a quick bit of knitting content for you:
That is dad's cardigan in pieces. I am almost done with the last sleeve and then I can sew the sucker together and go get some buttons for it. After I get done with that, I have to get to work on mom's. Then I have to do Grandma's. Dear Lord, I need another month. Christmas comes too soon. I will have some time to knit here soon though I suppose. The poker league will be ending next week and hopefully it will end with either DBF or myself winning a trip to the bahamas. We'll find out.
Well, I'm going to go plug away at work. I don't think anyone here except Kathy realizes it's my birthday today. I was secretly hoping for decorations on my desk, but that didn't happen. Maybe I'll get a cupcake instead...

Clickety-click-glug
Friday, Friday, Friday!
I played poker last night and made the final table, but was knocked out with my pair of queens to trip 6s. Not much you can do there. Oh well. I went over to my grandparents to pick up my mail and there were two packages there. One was an order from Knit Picks which Kathy and I placed the other day. I bought some of the suri dream to replace the moonlight mohair from lionbrand in a pattern that I really liked. That yarn will be turned into a sweater for my grandmother in Florida. The rest was wool of the andes for felting for Kathy (and a little for me too!). Then I had this little box sitting there from the Yarn Tree in New York. I didn't remember ordering any yarn from New York, so I opened the box and there sat this:
10 grams (though it looked like a ton more than that) of kid mohair/merino blend roving. I had to touch it...
It's got a beautiful luster to it. I have to admit that I fondled this stuff the rest of the evening. It was gorgeous and so super soft. I cursed the lack of spinning wheel at the house, but fondled the roving nonetheless.
Inside the package was a card. It said something along the lines of:
Happy Birthday, have fun spinning (and dyeing!) from Guess Whooooooooooooo.
Yes, that many ooo's. I'm going to say that this was from my wonderful secret pal a year or so ago (who also happens to be a good friend now) Erica. Thanks for the present! I love it!
Oh yeah, as some of you know, and all of you know now, my birthday is coming up. It's Monday to be exact. I will be 24 years old (though no one believes me, they all think I'm older) and then DBF's birthday is on Wednesday. Erica's birthday is also this month, so now I must work on the present for her :oP
And in other knitting news, I am almost done with my dad's cardigan. It's so close. I'm on the last sleeve and then I can sew it all together. The only thing that concerns me is how wide those sleeves are on the thing. There were no pattern corrections listed, so I suppose they are made to be that wide. I'm on the second sleeve now, so I really don't feel like ripping it out and trying again, so we'll see how it tries on. I looked at the pattern for mom's cardigan and it has much smaller sleeves. Go figure. Hopefully it will work. I hate frogging an entire 22 inch cardigan sleeve out of wool-ease thick and quick. DBF's sweater is coming right along too. I have a little more to fix on the back panel (front is done, now I have to add a little more length to the back) and then I can move on to the sleeves. It won't be done for his birthday like I had hoped, but it will be done soon. He needs a nice wool sweater to wear to work since it's cold there.
Oh, and something else that sucks arse, he has to work tonight! He got called in for tonight because the company has to produce more stuff I guess. At least it's not a full shift this time, but it still sucks. At least I got to see him on Wednesday night. It just sucks because tomorrow the prints for the annual camera club print show are due and tonight they all need to be framed. I'll just run over there after work and get as much framed as I can. Hopefully his mom will have them done printed by then and I can start framing. We'll see.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. I'll be a year older on Monday, so we'll see if I have any insights then :oP

In Remembrance
Usually I just make cornbread, but this year I made white sweet cupcakes. They also turned out pretty good I might add. This tradition comes from Ireland and I'm one of the few people in the family who holds on to the make white cakes on Samhain tradition. I had my big Halloween meal last night with my friend Laura. While there were just two of us there for the food, I made place settings for the other two people (my aunt Marti and my friend Diane) and made sure they each had a cupcake. I took black icing and drew a symbol on each cake so that they would know who's was who's once they were set outside that night. On aunt Marti's, I drew a martini glass (it seemed appropriate) and on Diane's, I drew a musical note since she was always singing praises to God.
Laura made a couple of decorated cupcakes for her grandparents and we set them outside. I'm sure the birds will enjoy them today. The only thing that I was dissappointed about last night was the lack of kids coming by to trick or treat. I live in a neighborhood full of kids, and I think I may have had 10 if I even had that many. I brought this in to work today:
That is a giant gallon freezer bag full of candy. I still have half a cauldron left of candy at home, but I couldn't leave that many just sitting around there. I have a weakness for chocolate, so into work it went! I did save the two entire bags of smarties for DBF since I know he likes them so well. I also saved a few peanut butter cups for me...like I need them...
On the bright side, I counted what I ate last night. All 25 flex points worth of candy even! I'm amazed, but I do still have 10 flexies left for the rest of the week. We'll see how long those last!
I was going to knit last night, but I ended up carving a pumpkin instead and then going to bed around 9ish. I couldn't believe that I went to bed that early. I guess I was just tired. I blame the rainy weather. Class got cancelled today, so I think I shall knit on lunch today and finish up DBF's front panel of his sweater. I would like to cast on the sleeves before going to play poker tonight. Yep, tonight is the big 100 dollar tournament. It's not the final tournament for the big trip, but it is free and we could win 100 bucks, so I'm in. I think I might even have a dry gin martini and say cheers to aunt Marti one more time.
